Due personalità diverse ma accomunate da un medesimo approccio introspettivo denso di rimandi psicologici: entrambi compiono un viaggio nel proprio inconscio per un faccia a faccia con il proprio lato oscuro, due artisti che attraverso il linguaggio della street art ci parlano di loro e forse anche un po’ di noi.
Da Avantgarden Gallery, Mr Di Maggio e Twoone, ognuno con il proprio inconfondibile segno, esporranno una serie di lavori inediti che rappresentano un omaggio al concetto di bello.
Non si tratta però del concetto di bellezza canonica e oggettiva, bensì del suo contrario: i due artisti s’interessano all’imperfezione, che per quanto cruda risulta magnifica proprio perché vera ed autentica in quanto non necessita di camouflage. Tematica quanto mai attuale in questa società che promette l’eterna giovinezza e vede il bello nel finto e nell’illusione.
Twoone è un artista giapponese che da anni lavora in Australia, dove è famoso per i suoi murales di grande impatto emotivo e per i suoi disegni in cui racconta il suo mondo interiore. Le sue opere sono popolate da maschere che sembrano veri e propri ritratti psicologici. I suoi soggetti antropomorfi, figure umane che si mescolano al mondo animale dai tratti spesso inquietanti, simboleggiano le istanze più istintuali e viscerali che si integrano a quelle più razionali.
L’artista indaga l’essenza, vuole arrivare al principio. La sua produzione è caratterizzata da immagini simboliche, a volte macabre, come i teschi, dai colori forti e dai tratti decisi, icona dell’eterno tema del “Memento mori” che costella l’Arte sin dai tempi più antichi. Il suo essere figurativo si fonde perfettamente con un forte impulso all’astratto. I suoi murales potrebbero essere le tavole di un trattato psicologico.
Mr Di Maggio invece vive a Milano ma ha alle spalle numerose esperienze estere.
Guardare le sue opere significa incontrare la sua anima, con le sue ossessioni, le sue passioni o i suoi quesiti. Nella sua produzione ritroviamo il suo articolato e bizzarro universo: i suoi viaggi, l’amore per la bicicletta, la sua barba, la famiglia, gli amici, i suoi interrogativi o insicurezze. I personaggi di Mr Di Maggio sono a volte forti altre volte fragili, rappresentano le contraddizioni e le sfaccettature dell’animo umano: angosce, dubbi, fantasie e sogni (o incubi?).
Come afferma Monica Fornaciari “…i suoi lavori sono dei perfetti meccanismi di ricerca interiore, sono la sublimazione di ansie e paure, determinate da un segno deciso e, al contempo, delicato e riguardoso. I suoi lavori partono dalla pancia e se ritocca non è per ammorbidire un concetto, ma solo per renderlo ancora più comprensibile e, a volte, duro. Disegnare, per lui, è ricordare e vivere insieme”.

Two different personalities with the same introspective approach full of psychological references: they both make a “trip”, in their unconscious, for a face to face with their own dark side, two artists who, through the street art language, tell us about them and maybe even a little about us.
From Avantgarden Gallery, Mr. DiMaggio and Twoone, each of them with their own distinctive mark, will exhibit a series of new works that are a tribute to the concept of beauty.
This is not about the canonical and objective concept of beauty, but rather its opposite: the two artists are interested about imperfection, that, even if crude, it is magnificent because it is true and authentic because it doesn’t camouflage.
Major challenge in this society that promises eternal youth and sees the beauty in imitation and illusion.
Twoone is a Japanese artist who worked in Australia for ten years, and now live and work in Berlin, where he is famous for his murals of great emotional impact and for his drawings in which he tells his inner world.
His works are populated by masks that look like real psychological portraits. His anthropomorphic subjects, real human figures that blend to the animal traits often disturbing, symbolize more instinctual and visceral instances that integrate to the more rational ones.
The artist explores the essence. Its production is characterized by symbolic images, sometimes macabre, like the skulls in strong colors and bold strokes, icon of the eternal theme of “Memento mori” that dot the art since ancient times. His being figurative perfectly blends with a strong impetus to the abstract. His murals may be the boards of a treaty of psychology.
Mr. Di Maggio instead lives in Milan but he has a background of numerous foreign experiences.
Watching his works means to meet his soul, with his obsessions, his passions and his queries. In his production we find its articulated and bizarre universe: his travels, his love for the bicycle, his beard, his family, his friends, his questions or insecurities. The characters of Mr. DiMaggio are sometimes strong and sometimes weak, they represent the contradictions and facets of the human soul: anxieties, doubts, dreams and fantasies (or nightmares?).
As Monica Fornaciari says “… his works are perfect mechanisms of soul searching, are the sublimation of anxieties and fears, caused by a strong mark and, at the same time, gentle and considerate. His works depart from the belly and if remodeling it is not to soften a concept, but only to make it more understandable and, at times, hard. Drawing, for him means to remember and live together. “
